How the COVID-19 Pandemic Affects LSP and Freelancer Revenue by Vertical

The COVID-19 pandemic has sent shockwaves through the localization industry, with many language service providers reporting declines in revenue. Based on six surveys with a total of 2,772 responses, this report quantifies the changes across 37 verticals. It reveals the start of a rebound from a demand trough in April and May 2020, but also demonstrates highly variable results. Some industries are experiencing dramatic increases or V-shaped recoveries, while others exhibit an ongoing revenue free-fall. Understanding these trends can help LSPs target their digital marketing and online sales efforts at those sectors most likely to deliver the greatest reward during this period as well as get ready to serve industries as they recover from COVID-19.
This report is based on six surveys conducted in April through August 2020 with leading LSPs, freelance linguists, and LSPs in China. With 2,772 responses, the results provide a comprehensive view of how COVID-19 has affected spending in 37 industries.
